On February 14th, we invited the Professor Ikeda Akifumi, President of Toyo Eiwa University, to our study group.
Professor Ikeda specializes in Middle East conflicts, and for this study group, he talked about the cause and structure of the current issues in Middle East ranging from the Israel-Palestine dispute to the situation in Syria. He answered the many questions that the participants raised at the meeting such as “Why does conflict occur between different religions and sects?” “Is Israel・Palestine dispute an political problem, or a religious one?”. It was a very valuable opportunity.
We will introduce several comments about the discussion.
“I learned about the problems in the West and Middle East regions. Normally we focus on the Israel・Palestine problem and study from that perspective. This time, I understood it from a broader perspective. Professor Ikeda answered many questions from the participants. We were very grateful.”
“I was impressed by his words about focusing on the structure behind the situation. Everyday we are exposed to vast amounts of information, but after listening to his talk, I realized most of it is wasted. I was inspired to think how to confront information.”
“We can only know what happened from the media, yet through today’s discussion, I learned how to think why it happened. He even expressed thoughts from a survey he did there, and it was an opportunity to gather valuable information.”
Our organization holds this study group ever Sunday. It’s rare to have a special guest like this time, but if you are interested please feel free to participate!
*The study group schedule for March is unstable. If you want to participate please contact us.
